Final Stats
Greenville, TN - Winston-Salem State University spoiled Tusculum College's home opener at Pioneer Arena in Greenville, TN on Saturday afternoon as the Rams shot 53% from the field en route to a 75-65 road victory as they downed Tusculum for the second time in five days to improve to 2-2 overall.
As was the case in the two team's meeting earlier this week, the Rams used excellent defense to take control of the game and get easy buckets. WSSU was hot from the field in the contest as well as WSSU turned in a season-high 52.9% shooting percentage, connecting on 27 of 51 shots.
For the fourth time in the Rams' four games, WSSU would trail heading into the locker room at halftime as Tusculum led at the break 32-31.
However, it was all Rams in the second half as WSSU used a 15-8 run over the contest's final 6:32 of play to pull out the ten-point road win.
WSSU was led in the contest by Corey Parker who recorded 23 points on nine of 15 shooting from the field and five-of-six shooting from the free throw line. He was joined in double-figures by Alleggrie Guinn who tallied 13 points and Darrell Wonge who recorded 11 points including tow back-to-back clutch three pointers late in the second half that sparked the Rams' run.
Tusculum College was led by Jordan Lear who recorded 15 points in the losing effort. Douglas Tshomba chipped in with 12 points and three rebounds as he was the second, and final, Pioneer to break into the double-digits in scoring.
With the win the Rams improve to 2-2 on the season (0-0 CIAA) while the Pioneers fall to 3-2 overall on the year (0-0 SAC).
WSSU returns to action on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at 7:30 pm as they tip off against Bowie State University as the Rams open up CIAA league play in Bowie, MD.
