GAME NOTES
• Saturday's meeting between the Rams and the Cougars marks the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
• The Rams now lead the all-time series, 1-0.
• WSSU head coach Bobby Collins is now 85-106 overall in seven seasons (3rd season at WSSU where he is 20-49); Jimmy Allen's career mark is now 73-48 (seventh season and seventh season at Averett).
• Winston-Salem State moves to 3-7 overall with the win; Averett falls to 6-4 with the loss.
• The game marked the home-opener for the Rams who started the 2008-09 season with nine consecutive games away from home (seven road games and two neutral-site contests).
• Winston-Salem Journal sportswriter John Dell is a graduate of Averett where he was a member of the soccer and basketball teams for the Cougars.
WINSTON-SALEM STATE NOTES
• WSSU started Jamal Durham, Paul Davis, Brian Fisher, Diontae Gibson and Isiah Tucker.
• With the start, Paul Davis has started all 10 of WSSU's games this season. He is the only WSSU player to start all 10 games.
• Brian Fisher recorded back-to-back three-point field goals to start the game as he helped WSSU jump out to a 6-0 lead en route to his game-high 10 first-half points.
• WSSU shot 41.2 percent in the first half (14-of-34). The Rams shot 38.7 percent from the field in the game (24-of-62).
• With his eighth point of the game, WSSU senior forward Jamal Durham became the 25th player in the history of WSSU basektball to record 1,000-plus career points.
• Durham now has 1,005 points for his career. He has appeared in 95 games for the Rams and has turned in a career scoring average of 10.6 points per game.
• The Rams return to action on Dec. 30 as they face the Monarchs of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
• The Rams forced 16 first-half turnovers; WSSU forced 26 turnovers in the game.
• Nine WSSU roster players recorded playing time in the first half. Eight of those players recorded at least four minutes in the half.
• The Rams had a season-high four players in double-figure scoring (Durham, Fisher, Gibson, Tucker).
AVERETT NOTES
• Averett started Kenny Hart, Damien Brown, Justin Parker, Jonathan Rumley and Ryan Frazier.
• The Cougars' Jonathan Rumley is a 2003 graduate of Glenn High School in Winston-Salem, N.C. He originally matriculated to Fayetteville State University and did not play for the Broncos before transferring to Averett three years ago.
• Damien Brown led the Cougars with 10 points in the first half.
• Averett shot 36.0 percent in the first half (9-of-25). The Cougars shot 31.5 percent from the field in the game (17-of-54).
• 11 Averett roster players recorded playing time in the first half.
