GAME NOTES

           Monday's meeting between the Rams and the Spartans marked the 58th meeting between the two teams.

           The Rams now trail the all-time series, 42-16. 

           The last meeting between the two teams came on Feb. 25, 2008 in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the Coliseum Annex in a contest that the Rams won 68-65.  Jamal Durham led the Rams in scoring in that contest with 17 points.  Four WSSU players recorded double-digit scoring nights in the contests. 

           WSSU head coach Bobby Collins is now 86-113 overall in seven seasons (3rd season at WSSU where he is 21-56); Anthony Evans' career mark is now 23-26 (second season and second season at Norfolk State).

           Winston-Salem State drops to 4-14 overall with the loss; Norfolk State improves to 7-11 with the victory (4-2 MEAC).

           WSSU has dropped their last six games; The Rams last win came on Jan. 5 when they defeated Columbia Union 85-61.

           WSSU drops to 1-6 since the start of the New Year.  The loss to the Spartans marks the Rams' second home loss of the season and marks the Rams' second straight home loss.

           The two teams will meet again on Monday Feb. 23, 2009 at Joseph Echols Hall in Norfolk, Va.

           

WINSTON-SALEM STATE NOTES

           WSSU started Jamal Durham, Paul Davis, Brian Fisher, Diontae Gibson and Isiah Tucker.

           Senior forward Jamal Durham now has 1,104 points for his career.  He has appeared in 103 games for the Rams and has turned in a career scoring average of 10.7 points per game.  He ranks 18th all-time in scoring at WSSU.

           The Rams hit only 28.6 percent of their first-half shots marking the ninth time this season that WSSU has shot in the 20-29 percent range in a single half.

           With the loss, the Rams are now 1-12 when trailing at the half in 2008-09.  WSSU is 3-1 when leading at the half this season.

           The Rams are now 1-10 when shooting less than 40 percent from the field.

           The loss marks the Rams' sixth consecutive loss.  WSSU has not won since Jan. 5 in an 85-61 victory over Columbia Union.

           The Rams got as close as three points at 48-45 with 7:38 remaining in the contest before NSU scored on six consecutive possessions to put the game away.

           With the loss, Bobby Collins' drops his all-time coaching mark against Norfolk State to 7-6 overall.  Three of those six losses have come while serving as head coach of the Rams.

           The Rams return to action on Saturday Jan. 31 as they face the Rattlers of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fla. at the Gaither Gymnasium in the first of two meetings between the two teams in 2008-09.

 

NORFOLK STATE NOTES

           Norfolk State started Brandon Monroe, Corey Lyons, Aleek Pauline, Michael Deloach and Joseph Dosett-Jeffries.

           Michael Deloach is the MEAC's leading scorer at 21.0 points per game.  The Rams held him to only six first-half points.  He would score only 14 points in the contest.

           The Spartans return to action on Saturday Jan. 31, 2009 in Hampton, Va. as they travel to face the Pirates of Hampton University at the HU Convocation Center.
