EUGENE, Ore. - The Ducks of Oregon proved to be too much for the Rams of Winston-Salem State on Friday evening at MacArthur Gymnasium in Eugene, Oregon as WSSU turned the ball over 20 times and shot only 21 percent from the field as the Rams fell to 0-1 on the season in the first game of the Basketball Travelers' Invitational.

The Rams, playing in the first of three games over the span of 44 hours, started the contest with a 4-0 run en route to leading the Ducks 7-3 four minutes and 24 seconds into the first half of play.

However following a three pointer by junior forward McIntoche Alcius that gave the Rams their 7-3 advantage, Oregon would mount a 27-0 run over the span of 7:08 as the Ducks pulled ahead 30-7 with 7:58 to play in the half as they put the game out of reach for the upstart Rams.

Andrew Jackson ended the Rams' scoreless drought with a jumper following an offensive rebound of Shelton Carter's missed shot to give WSSU their ninth point of the contest, yet it was not nearly enough as the Ducks closed the half on a 26-8 run en route to a 56-15 halftime advantage.

Second half action would get no better for WSSU as Oregon extended its lead to 52 points, 70-18, at the 12:41 mark after opening the second half by out-scoring the Rams, 14-3.

A layup by Malcolm Armstead gave the Ducks their largest lead of the game with 12:25 in the contest, holding a 53-point edge with a score of 72-19.

WSSU lowered the deficit to 42 points, 83-41, with just under five minutes remaining before the Ducks closed the game with an 11-2 run for the 51-point victory.

Oregon shot 50.8 percent from the field in the win, hitting 32-of-63 field goals (8-of-23 on 3-pointers, 34.8 percent). The Ducks hit 22-of-33 from the free throw line for 66.7 percent.

Winston-Salem State was limited to 20.8 percent shooting, hitting 10-of-48 from the field (6-of-19 on 3-pointers, 31.6 percent). The Rams made 17 of their 31 free throw attempts for 54.8 percent.

Shelton Carter led the Rams with 14 points in a losing effort as he was the only WSSU player to score in double-digits. Teondre Williams led the Ducks with 19 points in the victory.

WSSU falls to 0-1 on the season with the loss while the Ducks improve to 1-0 with the victory. The Rams return to action on Saturday afternoon at 4:15 pm (PT) as they face the Rams of Colorado State University.
