EUGENE, Ore. - Shelton Carter's team-high 19 points led four Winston-Salem State players who scored in double figures on Sunday afternoon in Eugene, Oregon but it was not enough as the Aggies of UC-Davis earned a 99-79 win over the Rams in final-day action from the 2009 Basketball Travelers' Invitational from the campus of the University of Oregon.

The Rams, who drop to 0-3 on the season with the loss, started the game by missing their first nine shots en route to finding themselves mired in a 20-0 hole until Shelton Carter's three-pointer 6:56 into the game gave the Rams their much-needed first points of the contest.

Carter's shot from long range sparked a furious Rams' rally as WSSU mounted a 9-2 run of their own which included a pair of three-point field goals and a three-point play with Carter scoring six of the nine points during the run.

The two teams would match one another basket for basket over the next 10 minutes of play before another WSSU run, this time a 10-2 surge, would cut the Aggies' lead to only one point with 1:21 to play in the first half.

A pair of free throws from Lamar Monger, and a free throw from senior guard Brian Fisher would cap the Rams' comeback as they turned a 20-point deficit into a one-point halftime advantage over the course of the final 14 minutes of play in the first half.

A Joe Harden three pointer only 33 seconds into the second half would give the Aggies back the lead, this time for good, as UC Davis would not trail for the remainder of the contest.

UC Davis would gradually add to their lead, eventually regaining the 20-point advantage that they had squandered in the first half as the Aggies used a 63 percent shooting display over the game's final 20 minutes as UC Davis converted 17 of their 27 second-half field goal attempts en route to the victory.

Despite All-Tournament Team selection Shelton Carter's 19 points and the Rams' 46.3 percent shooting performance, the Rams fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss.

Carter led four WSSU players in double figures as Brian Fisher recorded 16 points, Marcus Wells added 15 points and Andrew Jackson scored 13 in a losing effort.

Winston-Salem State returns to action on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m. as they welcome the Chargers of Atlanta Christian College to the C.E. Gaines Center for the Rams' home-opener.
