Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University women's tennis team was swept by the Appalachian State University Mountaineers on Sunday morning at the WSSU Tennis Complex as ASU swept all six singles matches and a trio of doubles matches en route to handing WSSU a 7-0 defeat.  The loss, the Lady Rams' fifth of the season, drops WSSU to 0-5 overall.

The Lady Rams played very well in the doubles matches to open the contest as Appalachian State would find it to be no easy task in securing the doubles point.

Ellie Linsell and Olivia Stoddard easily defeated Sloane Holmes and Bianka Locklear 8-0 at first doubles but Linsell and Stoddard' teammates would find it much more challenging to secure the winning doubles point as WSSU would force tie breakers at both the second and third doubles positions.

Blakeley Bean and Laura Janke snuck out a 9-8 (7-4) decision over Kayla Carter and Kalin Jarvis at second doubles and Christina Calott and Heather Prior earned a hard-fought 9-7 victory over Johanna Nunex and Chelsea Chatman at third doubles en route to securing the doubles point.

WSSU would expend too much energy in battling for the all-important doubles point and the experience-laden Mountaineers would capitalize as ASU earned straight-set victories at all six singles flights en route to the 7-0 sweep. 

The loss drops the Lady Rams to 0-5 on the season while the Mountaineers improve to 3-3 on the season with the win.

WSSU returns to action at 4:00 p.m. as they face Catawba College at the WSSU Tennis Complex.
