These two teams met on November 20th in Charlotte, and Winston-Salem State used a strong defensive effort down the stretch and outscored #25 Queens University of Charlotte 44-36 in the second half, in route to a 72-66 win over the hosts in the Queens Final Fire Classic.

The WSSU Rams played a solid defensive game and took care of the basketball on the evening, committing just 10 turnovers, while forcing the Queens Royals to 16 turnovers.

Winston-Salem State University would jump out to an early 10-2 lead, before Queen would make their first run of the day, and pull back even at 13-13 with 12:11 remaining in the first half.

The Rams would get into some early foul trouble that would send Lamar Monger and Justin Glover to the bench prematurely in the first half, and Queens would use that time to pull in front and keep WSSU at bay throughout the half. Queens largest lead of four points, came on two occasions, last with 8:13 left in the first stanza.

For the second consecutive night, neither the Rams nor the Royals could muster any long standing momentum, and a back and forth first half saw the Queens Royals take a 30-28 lead into the half.

WSSU would start the second half sluggish and Queen would take no time in pushing their lead to a five point advantage with 18:16 remaining to a 34-29 lead.  But the Ram would fight back and go on a run of their own, and quickly erased the lead, taking their own 44-36 lead with 15:13 remaining, and they would never relinquish it from that point.

Queens manage to go on a run and pull to within at 50-49 with 8:42 left, but the Rams defense and timely scoring would help the Rams hold on for the victory.

LaMar Monger scored a team high 17 points and Justin Glover added 14 points in the win for the Rams.  Monger added three assists and a steal, and Glover added four rebounds, one assist and five steals.  Stephon Platt added nine points and four rebounds.  Marcus Wells added seven points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Michael Bland chipped in seven points and three rebounds in the win.
