SLIPPERY ROCK, PA - The best season in the history of
Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (27-2) tennis history ended, Sunday
afternoon when the team took a 5-0 loss to the Indiana (Pa.)
Crimson Hawks (20-6). The loss ended the best season in the history
of Lady Rams tennis as the team finished 2011 with a 27-2 record, a
Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship,
and a 27-match winning streak.
Originally scheduled to take place at the Slippery Rock Tennis
Courts, the match was moved to the Lakevue Racquet Club where the
Lady Rams played their first indoor match of the season.
The Lady Rams' struggles began early when the team took three
doubles losses to open the day. The team took 8-2 losses in the
first and third doubles positions, but the team's showed their
fight in the second doubles position where the sophomore tandem of
Bianka
Locklear and Sloane Holmes
battled in an 8-6 loss.
With the 3-0 deficit, the Lady Rams had their work cut out for
them as the Crimson Hawks needed just two singles wins to end the
match. The WSSU losses came in the third and fourth singles
positions to end the day with the loss.
The loss ends the Lady Rams' season and hands the team its first
loss since the team's season opener at UNC-Charlotte. The future
looks especially bright for Lady Rams tennis as the team as this
