WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
Mikayla Stewart from the Winston-Salem State University women's tennis team has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) women's tennis Player of the Week for week one, the league announced this afternoon.
Mikayla, a freshman from Dumfries, Virginia helped the Rams open the CIAA Roundup going 2-1 on Saturday, including huge 4-0 victories over Bowie State and Virginia Union.
Against VSU, the Rams finished 4-2 by securing a point, winning doubles with her partner and winning her singles match 6-1, 6-2. Against Bowie State her and her partner also won doubles with a score of 6-1 and then she won singles 6-1, 6-1. She didn't stop there, she helped the Rams close out the day with another 6-1 feat in doubles and also secured the 6-0, 6-0 win in singles to close out the day against Va. Union. She went undefeated the entire weekend.
Mikayla and the Rams will be back in action this weekend hosting Johnson C. Smith University at the Joe Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m.
