Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Winston-Salem State University spilt a doubleheader today with #7 Millersville University, dropping game one 9-5, before taking the second game, 6-5.
On a cold and blustery day, Millersville busted open a scoreless game in the fourth inning, capitalizing on three Ram errors, plating four in the inning. The Marauders would score four runs in the inning, Knock WSSU starter Sheldon Johnson out of the game after 41/3 innings.
The Marauders added three more in the fifth and two more in the sixth to run the lead to 9-0. All of the Rams' runs came off of the Millersville bullpen.
WSSU opened the ninth inning with a solo home run from catcher Michael Robbins, followed by a single by Aaron Jones and a double by German Reys to score Jones. But the rally would come up short, ending the game at 9-5.
Sheldon Johnson (0-1) took the loss, giving up seven runs (3 earned) on five hits, walking four and striking out six.
Michael Robbins went four for five with two runs scored and collecting two rbi's. Aaron Jones was two of three with a sun scored and two rbi's. German Reyes picked up the Rams other rbi.
In the nightcap, the temperatures continued to drop and the winds continued to howl, as the teams prepared to take the field, with temperatures falling below the freezing mark.
The Millersville Marauders jumped to a quick 3-0 lead, manufacturing the first run, by drawing a walk, stealing second and swiping third. They would score when the throw to third from Robbins was wild.
Millersville built the advantage to 5-1 in the third on a two-run triple, before things started to unravel for the Marauders.
The Rams strung together four hits in the bottom of the inning and tallied four runs off of the Millersville pitcher, bouncing the starter from the game and tying it at 5-5.
In the fourth, Travis Moore singled and stole two bags, before Aaron Jones followed with a single, to score Moore, giving the Rams a 6-5 edge.
Millersville put a runner on base in each of the next three innings but couldn't manage a run. The Marauders helped the Rams out by committing four errors.
Adam Satanoff (1-0) picked up his first win by allowing three earned runs and striking out seven in 5.2 innings. John Markley (1) notched the save.
Zach Boraski led the Rams with three rbi's, going one for three in the nightcap. Devin McLemore, Michael Robbins and Aaron Jones each went two for four. Robbins and Jones each scored a run, while Jones also picked up and rbi.
The Rams and Marauders will play another double header today at 1:00 & 4:00 p.m., at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem, home of the Winston-Salem Dash.
