Box Score ASHEBORO, NC -- Travis Moore and Paco Martin each went 3 for 4, and Brandon Harrison was 2 for 3 with his second home run of the season, as the Winston-Salem State University Rams defeated the Bevard College Tornadoes, 6-4 in Ashboro, NC on Tuesday.
Paco Martin had two doulbes, and Brandon Harrison hit his first home run of the season in the win. Martin Harrison and Aaron jones each had two rbi's for the Rams.
Althought shaky early, Wesley Edwards settled down, going 7.0 innings, giving up four runs (all earned), on six hits walking three and striking out 13 for the Rams. Ryan Vickers came on in relief to pick up the win, while sheldon johnson
Brevard jumped out quickly on WSSU, as a walk and a two run blast put the Rams behind the eight ball early.
Brevard would take a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, before WSSU's Brandon Harrison got the the Rams on the board with a solo home run (2) in the bottom half of the inning.
In the fifth, Travis moore led off with a single and Paco Martin double down the left field line to put runners in scoring position with just one out. Aaron Jones brought both base runners across the plate with a base hit to left field, knotting the game up at three apiece.
Both teams would trade runs in the seventh and Brandon Harrison would drive a single through the infield to score Paco Martin, tying the game heading into the eighth inning.
Ryan Vickers would come on to pitch a scoreless eight for WSSU.
The Tornadoes went down quietly in eight, and the Rams bats came alive once again. Andrew Smith walked, followed by a Travis Moore single through the right side. Paco Martin continued with his hot bat, doubling down the right field line scoring Moore and Dominique Fitzgerald who came on to pinch run for Smith.
Sheldon Johnson would come in to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and pick up the save for the Rams.
"It was the first time this season that we put together a solid pitching and defensive effort to go along with our offensive efforts," says Kevin Ritsche, WSSU head coach.
"Offensively, we've been there the whole year, but pitching wise, we've struggled. Wesley Edwards came in a struggled in the first inning, and from that point on he was lights out, striking out 13 guys," added Ritsche.
"This was easily the best game we've played all year, which was good to see," added Ritsche.
"The runs we scored to go ahead were in the eighth inning, so we know we can score runs late which is really big, and a huge confidence builder for our guys," says Ritsche.
