Box Score RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams picked up another Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) victory, Saturday morning when the team took a 4-2 win over the Virginia Union Lady Panthers on the second day of the 2012 CIAA Round-Up. Junior catcher Nikki Lynch hit a walk-off RBI double to seal the win.
The game featured some stellar defensive play with the Lady Rams and Lady Panthers combining for 11 total hits and 11 runners left on base in the game. As a team, the Lady Rams totaled six hits in the game with freshman catcher Bria Jones went two-for-three from the plate with two runs scored. Junior infielder Nikki Lynch added three RBI and a double.
The Lady Rams opened the game on a high note with a pair of first inning runs when Jones scored on an error by the pitcher, followed by an RBI groundout by Lynch. After allowing a pair of VUU runs, the Lady Rams responded with a pair of extra inning runs to secure the win when Lynch hit a two RBI double in the ninth inning.
WSSU junior pitcher Brittany Lane (1-0) made her debut in a big way, going six innings with 11 strikeouts in the game. Sophomore Yasmine Lee started the game and went three innings for the Lady Rams.
The Lady Rams' work is not done, however, as the team will take on the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs later in the day at the 2012 CIAA Round-Up.
