WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (13-6, 9-1 CIAA) took a hard-fought 8-1 win over a scrappy Johnson C. Smith team, Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rams clicked on all cylinders to take the win over a strong-willed Lady Golden Bulls team.
WSSU got things going early with three straight wins in doubles play. The Lady Rams were impressive with 8-0, 8-3, and 8-2 victories. In singles play, the Lady Rams went 5-1. The sole singles loss turned out to be a classic battle that saw both players battle for every point.
With the win, the Lady Rams complete the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division Round-Up with a 3-1 record and improved to 9-1 in the CIAA. The Lady Rams will return to action next weekend when the team heads to Raleigh, N.C. for another CIAA Southern Division Round-Up.
