Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State started quickly, but could not hold off the hot shooting UNC Pembroke Braves, as the Rams would fall 84-64, snapping a four-game winning streak Monday night at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
With the loss, the WSSU Rams fall to 5-3 overall, while the Braves of UNC Pembroke improve to 6-4 overall.
This would be the WSSU Rams first game in 13 days, coming off of a break for finals.
WSSU started strong behind the play of CJ Ford, and jumped out to an early eight point lead at 13-5.
UNC Pembroke got back into the game with a massive 27-4 run that took nearly 11 minutes, to take a lead they would not surrender.
With the game tied 17-17 with 7:35 remaining, the Braves broke open the game and took a 35-23 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Braves started the second half on fire, shooting almost 73% from the field in the first eight minutes, and pushed their lead to 29 points with 12:49 remaining, 59-30.
Winston-Salem State would not give up, and battled for the rest of the night, but could not cut intot he the UNCP lead significantly, and would eventually fall 84-64.
The Rams were led in scoring by Demone Harrison, who finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal and one blocked shot. CJ Ford added 11 points, seven rebounds five assists and a steal, while TJ Wilson scored eight points, to go with two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
UNC Pembroke was led by Giavonni Mack, who scored a game high 20 points, while Alex Bradley added 17 and Jihad Wright chipped in 12 points. Brandon Winford added 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists and three steals for the Braves.
WSSU will return to the hardwood on Wednesday night, when the Rams host Montreat College at 7:00pm in the CE Gaines Center. The game is labled Family 4-pack night, as a family of four can come to the game, and get four popcorns for just $24.
