RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (1-3, 1-3 CIAA) took a tough Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division loss when the team took a 7-2 loss to the Shaw Lady Bears (4-0, 3-0 CIAA), Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 1-1 in the CIAA Southern Division.
There was no shortage of fight for the Lady Rams as they took on one of the premier teams in the CIAA, but the Lady Rams were outgunned this time. After claiming a default win at #3 doubles, the Lady Rams took an 8-1 loss at #2 doubles and an 8-2 loss at #1 doubles.
From there, the Lady Rams continued their battle in singles play. After claiming another default win at #6 singles, junior Gabrielle Lindsay gave the best performance with a 6-2, 6-0 loss at #3 singles. Senior Devan Corpening also took a hard-fought 6-1, 6-0 loss at #1 singles. From there, the Lady Rams took 6-0, 6-0 losses at #2, #4, and #5 singles.
With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 1-3 for the season and 1-3 in CIAA play. The team will return to action, Tuesday afternoon when they host the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls in a 2:00 p.m. match at the WSSU tennis courts.
