WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-5, 4-5 CIAA) could find no answers or the Shaw Lady Bears (12-2, 10-1 CIAA) when the team took a 6-3 loss, Sunday afternoon. The loss came in spite of a courageous effort by the Lady Rams, but the team was overmatched against the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division leading Lady Bears.
Things got tough early in doubles play when the Lady Rams' default win at #3 doubles was the only point that the team could manage. The team took an 8-0 loss at #2 doubles, followed by an 8-3 loss at #1 doubles.
The WSSU troubles carried over into singles play when WSSU took a default win at #1 singles and #6 singles, but took losses at #2, #3, #4, and #5 singles to end the day with the loss.
The Lady Rams will return to action, Tuesday when the team hosts another CIAA Southern Division foe, the Livingstone College Blue Bears in a 4:00 p.m. match, Tuesday afternoon.
