WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-1, 0-1) got a slow start to the 2015 season when the team took a hard-fought 7-2 loss to the Virginia State Trojans (1-0), Saturday evening in the first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round Up of the season. Though the inexperienced Lady Rams had their share of struggles in match, there was no shortage of fight for the team in the tough loss.
The Lady Rams started the match off strong with an8-6 win at #2 doubles, but the team took an 8-2 loss at #1 doubles and an 8-0 loss at #3 doubles to finish doubles play trailing 1-2. The WSSU struggles carried over into singles play when sophomore Gabriel Lindsay took a 6-3, 0-6, and 10-6 win at #2 singles, but it was the only singles win of the day and the Lady Rams finished the match with the 7-2 loss.
With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The Lady Rams will return to action tomorrow morning when the team hosts the defending CIAA champion Chowan Hawks in a 9:00 a.m. match.
