SPARTANBURG, SC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (0-1) got the 2016 tennis season underway, Saturday afternoon when the team took a 7-1 loss to the Converse Valkyries (3-2). The Rams got the season off on a down note, but the cloud of the loss did have a silver lining with the performance of its newcomers.
Things got tough for the Rams as the team took two losses in doubles play before court conditions forced the final doubles match to be unfinished due to court conditions. The Rams fell 8-1 at #1 doubles and an 8-0 loss at #3 doubles.
The Rams did have a positive performance in singles play as WSSU freshman Miranda Legg recorded a 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 win. However, the Rams took losses at #1-#6 singles.
The Rams will return to action, Saturday, March 5th when the team faces the Virginia State Trojans at the 2015 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round Up.
