Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem State's Demone Harrison scored a game high 26 points, but it wasn't enough as a last second buzzer Livingstone Blue Bear beater sank the Rams on Senior Day, 71-69.
With the loss, WSSU finished the regular season 11-16 overall, 5-11 in the CIAA and 4-6 in the important CIAA Southern Division. Livingstone College improves to 12-16 overall, 7-9 in the CIAA and 4-6 in the Southern Division.
The Livingstone Blue Bears were able to break out first in the contest and took an early lead before the home standing Rams battled back to tie the game for the first time at 4-4.
The game would be tied four more times before Winston-Salem State would surge ahead for the first time on a Demone Harrison 3-pointer.
WSSU would eventually extend the lead to 10 points late in the first half on two free throws from C.J. Ford, at 34-24, before settling for a nine point halftime lead, 34-25.
Winston-Salem State would be able to maintain its advantage, and then extend their lead at the begin of the second half, as Demone Harrison would hit two free throws to put the Rams up 45-34 with just under 16 minutes left to play.
Livingstone would battle back with a 13-4 run to trim the WSSU lead to just two points, 49-47, with 10:24 left to play.
Then just as quick, Winston-Salem State answered with a 12-3 run to go back out in front 61-50 with just over seven minutes remaining.
Winston-Salem State would go cold, missing its final seven field goal attempts from the field and making just three of six free throws coming down the stretch.
Livingstone scored on six of its final eight possessions including a running off balance fade away jumper from the left block by the Blue Bears Ty Newman that would give Livingstone a 71-69 lead with one second left.

Winston-Salem State was led in scoring by Demone Harrison, who finished with a career-high 26 points and pulled down four rebounds and one blocked shot. Terrell Leach added 11 points, three rebounds and three assists and Keith Armstrong added 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists. C.J. ford chipped in eight points, three rebounds and two steals.
Ty Newman paced the blue Bears with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot. Nasir Austin added 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Cordero Holt and Juwan Cole each chipped in nine points.
Winston-Salem State will not wait for the release of the pairings for next week's CIAA Tournament, to determine when and who the will face. The CIAA Tournament begins play on Tuesday at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC.
