RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-5, 1-3 CIAA) took a 7-2 loss to the defending Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) champion Shaw Lady Bears, Saturday afternoon. The Rams gave a great effort in the match, but the team could not match up against the defending champions.
The Rams struggled in doubles with a pair of losses. After claiming a default win at #3 doubles, the Rams fell, 8-1 and 8-2 in #1 and #2 doubles respectively.
The WSSU struggles carried over into singles play as well. A default win at #6 singles was all that the team could manage. The WSSU trio of sophomore Alexus Morgan (#1), junior Gabrielle Lindsay (#2), and senior Devan Corpening (#4) all took 6-1, 6-0 losses while the Rams took 6-0, 6-0 losses at #3 and #5 singles.
The Rams won't have long to recover as the team will head to Charlotte, N.C., Tuesday afternoon for a key CIAA Southern Division match against the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls.
