WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (3-5, 3-3 CIAA) took their second straight win, Thursday when the team took an impressive 8-1 win over the Livingstone Lady Blue Bears (1-7, 1-4 CIAA). With the win, the Rams improve to an impressive 3-1 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division and remain in second place.
The Rams opened the win on a high note with three straight doubles wins. The duo of senior Devan Corpening and sophomore Alexus Morgan took an 8-0 win at #2 doubles with sophomore Aja Grant and junior Gabrielle Lindsay recording an 8-1 win at #1 doubles. Freshman Miranda Legg and sophomore Anye Walker rounded things out with an 8-2 win at #3 doubles.
With the wins in place, the Rams kept things going with a 5-1 record in singles play. Morgan got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 singles, followed by Corpening's 6-0, 6-1 win at #4 singles. Soon after, Spencer added a 6-1, 6-0 win at #5 singles before Grant finished the win with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 singles.
With the win, the Rams improve to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in CIAA play. The team will return to action this weekend when the team heads to Richmond, Va. to take part in the CIAA Round Up.
