WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (0-3, 0-1 CIAA) got off to a slow start in conference play when the team took a 7-2 loss to the Virginia State Trojans (1-0, 1-0 CIAA), Saturday. The loss came at the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round Up.
After opening the match with three straight losses in doubles play, 8-4, 8-2, and 8-3 respectively, the Rams bounced back with a pair of singles wins. Sophomore Alexus Morgan took a 6-1, 6-3 win at #2 singles while senior Devan Corpening took a 7-5, 6-4 win at #4 singles.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 0-3 for the season and 0-1 in CIAA play.
