CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams was rewarded for a strong performance during the season when the duo of senior Devan Corpening and sophomore Alexus Morgan were both named to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All-Conference team, Thursday afternoon. After compiling their best regular season since 2013, the honors came in for the Rams.
The duo earned the honors after a pair of successful seasons on the court. Corpening earned a spot on the All-CIAA team for the first time in her career after finishing the regular season with a 10-5 record in singles play with a 9-3 record in CIAA play. Morgan earned All-CIAA honors after her first season with the Rams. She finished the regular season with a 10-4 record in singles play and a 9-3 record in CIAA play. The duo also combined for a 7-6 record in doubles play.
The honors came at the end of a great season that saw the team compile a 9-7 record, the most wins since the 2013 season. The team also finished the season with an 8-5 record in CIAA play and as the second place team in the CIAA Southern Division.
The team will kick off the post season, Thursday morning when the team takes part in the 2016 CIAA Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. After the successful season, the Rams earned the fourth-place seed in the tournament and will open the tournament against the fifth-seeded Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls.
