RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-8) ended their successful 2016 season with a hard-fought 5-0 loss to the Chowan Lady Hawks (24-5) in the semifinal round of the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, Friday morning. The Rams gave a great effort, but the team did not have enough to compete with the top-seeded Lady Hawks.
The Rams put up a great effort in doubles play despite the losses. After taking an 8-1 loss at #3 singles, the Rams fell, 8-0 at #1 doubles before the duo of senior Devan Corpening and sophomore Alexus Morgan put up a great effort in an 8-5 loss at #2 doubles.
The Rams continued their strong effort in singles play, but it was not enough. After taking a 6-0, 6-0 loss at #6 singles, the Rams' season ended with a 6-0, 6-0 loss at #5 singles.
With the loss, the Rams end their 2016 season with a 10-8 record, their best record since the 2013 season when the team reached the championship match of the CIAA tournament.
