Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – It took everything they had, but the Winston-Salem State Rams (1-0) volleyball team was able to open the 2016 on the right note as they took a five-set win over the Mount Olive Trojans (0-1) on the opening match of the 2nd Annual Spike Out Hunger Challenge, Friday afternoon. The Rams were able to take the match win after a see-saw battle saw a different team win each set. In the end, it was Winston-Salem State that came out on top with a 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 22-25, and 15-10 victory.
The Rams had a solid overall effort in the match with the team totaling 59 kills in the match. WSSU sophomore outside hitter Mia Herrod led the way for the Rams with 16 kills while senior outside hitter Teynia Shepherd added 13. Fellow senior middle blocker Jocelyn Mills added six total blocks (one solo) in the victory as well.
