Rams Fall In Slugfest To Seton Hill Griffins, 19-14

WINSTON-SALEM, NC –  Winston-Salem State would pound out 14 hits, including a triple and home run, but it was not enough, as the Rams allowed the Griffins a 10 run eighth inning, and would fall 19-14 on Sunday at BB&T Ballpark in downtown Winston-Salem, NC.

With the loss, the WSSU Rams fall to 4-10 overall, while the Griffins of Seton Hill improve to 2-1 on the 2017 season.

The WSSU Rams got on the scoreboard first, when Emelio Abreu drove in Randy Norris on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.

The Seton Hill Griffins would tie the game in the top of the third inning, and the WSSU Rams got their bats going in the bottom half of the third.

Ivan Acuna would homer to left center field, and John Garcia drove home Randal Ortiz with a sacrifice fly to left field, giving the Rams a 3-1 advantage.

Seton Hill would surge ahead in the top of the fourth inning, when the Griffins would score five runs in the inning, and jump out to a 6-3 lead.

Winston-Salem State would get a little closer in the bottom of the fourth, when Randal Ortiz singled to right field, advancing Brandon Ford to third base, and scoring Willie McRae.

The Rams would tie the game in the fifth inning, when Willie McRae would drive in John Garcia, who got on base with a single, with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Emilio Abreu would single home Brandon Ford in the bottom of the sixth inning, before the Rams would explode for seven runs on five hits in the seventh inning.

In the seventh, Randy Norris would single to right field, scoring john Garcia, while Brandon Ford tripled, scoring Norris and Landon Steiner. Ivn Acuna would single home Brandon Ford, and would eventually come home on a wild pitch.

Michael McNamara singled home Abreu and Ortiz, as the WSSU Rams would jump out in front, 13-6 heading into the eighth inning.

But the WSSU bullpen would once again fail, allowing the Seton Hill Griffins to score 10 runs on seven hits with the help of two errors, as the Rams would fall behind, 16-13.

Matt maudlin would pick up a run batted in in the bottom of the eighth, and Seton hill would add three runs on five hits in the top of the ninth to secure the 19-14 win.

Randy Norris went 2 for 5 with three runs scored and one run batted in and Brandon Ford went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in and a triple, while Ivan Acuna went 2 for 5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in and a home run.

Randal Ortiz went 2 for 5 with two runs scored and an rbi, Emilio Abreu finished 2 for 3 with two runs batted in and a run scored and Michael McNamara finished 1 for 3 with two runs batted in

John Garcia went 1 for 4 with two runs scored and a run batted in, Willie McRae finished 1 for 4 with a run scored and a run batted in and Landon Steiner finished 1 for 6 with a run scored.
