PEMBROKE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-3) gave a strong effort, but the team could not quite stop the Shippensburg Raiders (4-0) in a 10-2 loss on the second day of the UNC Pembroke Invitational. After taking an early lead, the Rams fell victim to a late rally by the Raiders that cost the Rams the loss.  

AS a team, the hits were hard to come by for the Rams. The Rams totaled five hits in the game, including RBI hits from freshman Daijah Chambers and sophomore centerfielder Destiny Snipes.

It was the Rams who struck first, but the team had to answer a charge from the Raiders late. Snipes hit an RBI single that scored Chambers in the third inning and gave the Rams a 1-0 lead. Shippensburg would go on to tie the game in the fourth inning with a score that tied the game 1-1. The Rams added another score in fifth inning when Chambers hit an RBI single to score senior pitcher Katherine Zimmer. The offense was all that the Rams could muster, however, as Shippensburg ran off nine unanswered runs, recording a five-run sixth inning, a three-run sixth inning, and a one-run seventh inning. The effort left the Rams with the 10-2 loss.

WSSU's Zimmer (0-2) took the pitching loss, going four and one-thirds innings with five runs allowed (four earned) and three strikeouts. Senior Mercedes Hargett came in for two and two-thirds innings and finished with five runs allowed (two earned) and no strikeouts.
