CHARLOTTE, NC – Make it four straight wins for the Winston-Salem State Rams (6-6, 5-3 CIAA) after the team took a dominating 5-0 win over the Virginia Union Lady Panthers, Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams claim their fourth straight victory and completed a sweep for the Rams at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round Up.
The Rams opened the day with three straight doubles wins. The team opened the day with a pair of 8-0 wins at #2 and #3 doubles. The tandem of senior Gabrielle Lindsay and junior Aja Grant closed things out with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.
With the 3-0 lead in hand, the Rams only needed two more singles wins to claim the victory. Junior Zakia Spencer got things started when she recorded a #5 singles win before sophomore China Brown closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #5 singles to seal the 5-0 win. The remaining matches were unfinished.
With the win, the Rams improve to 6-6 overall land 5-3 in CIAA play. Tomorrow's match against Bowie State has been postponed. Therefore, the Rams will return to action, Thursday when the team hosts the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos in a CIAA Southern Division match.
