Rams Complete Sweep Of Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks with 3-1 Win

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning, and got a solid performance from Jordan Carlton out of the bullpen, as the Rams completed the sweep of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks, 3-1, on Sunday at BB&T Ballpark.

With the win, WSSU improves to 8-11, while the Crimson Hawks fall to 3-6 on the season.

In the second inning, IUP would score the game's first run, on a single, allowing the runner on third to come home.

The WSSU Rams answered in the bottom half of the inning, after Ivan Acuna was hit by a pitch, and Michael McNamara singled to left field, bringing home Acuna to tie the game.

The game would not have any more runs scored until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Randal Ortiz singled to start the inning, and Ivan Acuna would boule to right center field, scoring Ortiz. Matt Mauldin would single and Ivan Acuna would advance to third base. Acuna would score on a throwing error from the IUP catcher, giving the WSSU Rams a commanding 3-1 lead heading into the final inning.

Jordan Carlton would get the Crimson Hawks out 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh inning, and the Rams would walk away with a 3-1 win, and sweep of the day.

Ivan Acuna went 1 for 2 with one run batted in, and two runs scored, while Michael McNamara also picked up an rbi, going 1 for 3. Randal Ortiz stayed hot at the plate, going 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Emilio Abreu went 1 for 2 and Randy Norris finished 1 for 3.

Jordan Carlton picked up his first win in two years, going 4.0 innings allowing one hit and striking out three batters.
