ELON, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-4) stepped up in class when the team took a hard-fought 7-0 loss to the Elon Phoenix (10-9), Thursday afternoon. The Rams gave a great effort against their NCAA Division I opponents, but the effort was not enough as the team took the tough loss.
Playing by NCAA Division I rules, the Rams' struggles began by dropping the point in doubles play. The team took 6-0 losses in all three doubles matches.
The Rams carried their struggles in to singles play. After taking 6-0, 6-0 losses at #3, #4, #5, and #6 singles, seniors Alexus Morgan and Aja Grant took 6-1, 6-0 losses at #1 and #2 singles respectively to take the loss.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 2-4 on the season. The team will not have long to rest when they head to Charlotte, N.C. this weekend to take part in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tennis Round Up.
