WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State University Rams (0-3) tennis team returned home for a 9-0 loss to the Converse Valkyries (3-4). The Rams put up a great effort in the match, but the team could not break through in the hard-fought loss.
The Rams began the day with three losses in doubles play. The Rams took 6-2 losses at both #1 and #2 doubles before the duo senior Cylah Gaither and freshman Tamia Bennett took a 6-3 loss in the #3 spot to end doubles play.
In singles play, the Rams continued to compete hard, but the team was not able to claim a set win. The Rams took 6-0, 6-1 losses at #1 and #2 singles before 6-1, 6-2 losses at #2 and #3 singles. Gaither added a 6-2, 6-1 loss at #5 singles. It was Bennett who had the best singles performance with a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 loss at #6 singles that ended the match.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 0-3 to start the season. The team will return to action, tomorrow when they head to Fayetteville, N.C. to take on the Methodist Monarchs in a 1:00 p.m. match.
