CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Three players from the Winston-Salem State University volleyball team have earned Food Lion Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Players of the Week honors for Week nine, announced Tuesday afternoon.
Raven Gray was named Offensive Player of the Week,
Myra Wallace was named Defensive Player of the Week and
Kaylen McClinton was named Setter of the Week.
Gary, a sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina was named Offensive Player of the Week after recording a total of 29 kills including a season-high 15 in a victory over Claflin. The outside hitter had 71 total attacks. Defensively, she had four digs and one block.
Wallace, a senior from Madison Alabama, was named Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Rams go 2-0 last week defeating Claflin and Johnson C. Smith. She totaled two kills, 18 total attacks, six assists, and 35 digs. She had a season-high 26 digs in the 3-2 victory over Johnson C. Smith.
This is Wallace's second time being named Defensive Player of the Week this season.
McClinton, a sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina was named Setter of the Week after recording 21 total attacks with 45 assists and 24 digs. She had a season-high 15 digs in a 3-1 victory over Claflin last Monday evening.
Another award winner was Clarke Blakemore (Elizabeth City State) was named Rookie of the Week.
The Rams are back in action on Thursday, October 27 hosting Claflin for Senior Night at 6 p.m. inside Whitaker Gymnasium.
