Volleyball Defeats VSU and Lincoln falls to ECSU in CIAA Round-UP

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team went 2-1 in the CIAA Round-up hosted by Shaw University/St. Augustine's in Raleigh, North Carolina over the weekend.

After three matches, the Rams move to (9-10, 5-4 CIAA) on the season.

Quick Stats:
Rheign Davis led the Tigers with 15 kills, followed by Sanaa Lanier with nine and Breona Young with five to help the Rams secure the 3-1 (25-21, 10-25, 25-21, 25-19) victory over VSU. Myra Wallace who recorded four aces and a season-high 25 digs surpassed her 1,000 career digs with the Rams. Kaylen McClinton led the Rams in assists with 16 followed by Brooke Norwood with 11.

In the second match against Elizabeth City State, Breona Yong recorded 10 kills followed by Sanaa Lanier with nine. Myra Wallace, Paris Joyner both recorded one ace and Rheign Davis led the way with four blocks. Paris Joyner also recorded 13 digs in the match. The Vikings took the first two sets before the Rams won the third set but eventually, ECSU won set four to take the match 3-1 (22-25, 13-25, 26-24, 9-25).

Yesterday, the Rams swept the Lions of Lincoln (Pa) 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-19) behind Rheign Davis leading the way with nine kills. Myra Wallace recorded three aces and Niyonna McIntyre recorded eight blocks. Kaylen McClinton led the way for the Rams recording 10 assists and Jericka Brodie recorded 10 digs.

WSSU is back in action tomorrow, October 11 taking on Emory and Henry in Emory, Virginia. The match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
