WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University has won 20 straight home games inside the C.E. Gaines Center after defeating Clark Atlanta 86-59 Saturday afternoon.
The Rams moved to 8-1 (0-0 CIAA) on the season while Clark Atlanta fell to 1-8 (0-3 SIAC).
Jaylon Gibson finished with a double-double, 25 points, and 11 rebounds, while Samage Teel finished with 22 points. Isaac Pason also finished in double figures, scoring 17.
The Rams opened the first half leading 17-10 before the Panthers scored seven points tying the game at 17 and then hit a three to take a 20-17 lead with 10:34 left to play in the half. WSSU came back and scored seven unanswered points to take a 27-20 lead. After exchanging points back and forth, the Rams went into the under-five media timeout leading by six (37-31). The Rams went up ten (43-33) with 1:31 to play and went into the half leading 48-35 after Samage Teel and Isaac Parson hit a few baskets.
A made free-throw from Jaylon Gibson and a lay-up from Samage Teel put the Rams up 16 with 18:21 left to play. The Rams never slowed down, eventually led by 17 (60-43) after a Johnathan Hicklin lay-up with 13:37 to go. WSSU outscored the Panthers to win the game by 27.
Winston-Salem State is back in action on Thursday, December 15th beginning CIAA play hosting Lincoln (Pa). at 7:30 inside the C.E. Gaines Center. Free admission to fans if you bring a canned food item or toiletry item.
