WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Make that 21 straight victories for the Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team as they defeated Lincoln University (Pa.) 69-65 inside the C.E. Gaines Center Thursday night.
WSSU moves to 9-1 (1-0 CIAA)) on the season, while Lincoln falls to 5-6 (0-1 CIAA).
Jaylen Alston led all scorers with 17 points and seven rebounds along with three assists.
Jonathan Hicklin finished with 13 rebounds and two steals while
Isaac Parson also finished in double digits with 12.
The game was tied at 6-6 before LU took a 13-8 lead over the Rams with 12:33 remaining in the half. A layup from
Isaac Parson gave the Rams their first lead of the night (14-13) with 10:35 to go. He then hit a three and
Xavier Fennell dunked the ball to give the Rams an 18-13 lead. Pushing the momentum, the Rams went into the half-up nine (28-19).
At the under 15-minute media, the Rams had increased their lead to 12 (40-28).
Jonathan Hicklin hit a huge three to give the Rams their largest lead 19 (47-28) with 13:42 left in the game. Lincoln changed up their defense which helped them to come with two (65-63) with 2:32 to play but made free throws down the line gave the Rams the 69-65 victory.
Winston is back in action continuing CIAA play hosting Virginia Union on Saturday, December 19th at 4:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
