SALEM, W.V. – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team defeated Salem International in four sets, (19-25, 25-16, 25-19, 26-24) inside the T. Edward Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The Rams improved to (3-5, 0-1 CIAA).
How it Happened
WSSU began set one on an 2-0 run, but Salem International answered back with an 8-2 run. Two more scoring runs gave SI the 25-19 edge over the Rams and helped them take set one and lead the match 1-0.
The Rams bounced back in set two opening with a gigantic 18-4 run. Salem came back with an 7-1 run of its own but a service error from SI and a kill from
Breona Young gave the Rams a 20-11 lead. SI scored four more points before the Rams finished the set on a 5-1 run to win 25-16 and tie the match at 1-1.
In set three, Salem International started with a 5-1 run before the Rams scored seven unanswered points to take an 8-6 lead. Then, a kill from
Rheign Davis sparked another scoring run for WSSU as they went on scoring four more points. Salem International eventually tied the match at 14 points but the Rams secured the set on an 11-4 run and took the set 25-19 and went ahead in the match 2-1.
It came down to the wire in the fourth set with points being exchanged and multiple score changes, but the Rams triumphed in the end when another kill from
Rheign Davis tied the match at 24, and the final two points including a kill from
Sanaa Lanier went in favor of WSSU as they took the set, 26-24 and the match 3-1.
