ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University football team had the lead going into the half, but second half scoring gave Elizabeth City State University the 20-17 advantage Saturday afternoon inside Roebuck Stadium.
The Rams fell to (0-3, 0-1 CIAA), while ECSU improved to (1-3, 1-0 CIAA). The series record is now 40-17-2-WSSU.
How it Happened
- Asa Barnes got the Rams on the board first scoring on a two-yard run with 3:36 left in the first quarter and with the extra point the Rams had an early 7-0 lead.
- The Rams went into the half leading 10-0 after a field goal with 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
- The momentum changed when ECSU's Cameron Sanders scored on a 15-yard pass with 3:44 left in the third quarter to bring the Vikings within three after the extra point was good.
- With 9:30 left in the game, the Vikings scored a touchdown to take a 14-10 lead.
- A fumble by Asa Barnes and a Vikings recover from Raevon Freeman put ECSU up 20-10 with 3:45 left to play in the game.
- The Rams made a substitution after starting freshman Jahmier Slade putting in Richard Latimer with 4:35 left to play and the Rams scored on a rush from JahTwan Strafford with 1:55 left in the game to trail ECSU, 20-17.
- The Rams had one last chance with 24 seconds remaining but came up short.
