ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Winston-Salem State men's basketball team fell to Claflin University 69-58 Wednesday night inside the Edward L. Tullis Arena.
The Rams move to 12-5 (4-4 CIAA), while the Panthers improve to 13-3 (5-3 CIAA).
Ketron "KC" Shaw led the Rams with 14 points and seven rebounds, while
Samage Teel finished with 12 points and
Isaac Parson added 10 points.
Jaylen Alston and
DyQuavis Wilkins finished with seven points each.
The Rams started on a 6-0 scoring run, but the Panthers answered back taking an 11-8 lead with 12:52 left to play in the half. With 4:43 to play in the half, the Panthers led 24-16 over the Rams. KC Shaw hit a three with 4:33 to play to bring the Rams within five, 24-19. WSSU went into halftime trailing 30-27.
The Panthers opened the second half on a 6-0 scoring run. The Panthers went up 40-27 with 15:25 remaining in the game.
Jaylin Parker hit a three to bring the Rams within ten, 47-37 with 11:23 left in the half. Claflin slowly started pulling away leading by 16 with 4:29 left in the game. They finished the game with an 11-point advantage, 69-58.
Winston will be back in action on Saturday, January 22nd hosting Fayetteville State at 4:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
