Frostburg, M.D.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team dropped their season opener to Frostburg State 67-47 inside Bobcat Arena.
The Rams moved to (0-1,0-0 CIAA), while Frostburg State improved to (1-0, 0-0 MEC).
Sierra Hunter led the Rams with nine points and five rebounds,
Amaya Tucker and
Chloe Williams both scored eight points.
Christiana McLean and
Tolisha Walker both chipped in with five rebounds.
In the first quarter, the Rams came out on fire taking a 6-0 lead. Missing their next eight field goal attempts, the Bobcats were able to take the lead 12-7.
Amaya Tucker ended the scoring drought closing the lead to 12-9 The Bobcats kept the momentum as the quarter ended 19-12 Bobcats. In the second the Rams bounced back as they regained the lead on an
Amaya Tucker three-pointer to make the score 24-21 Rams. The Bobcats edged out the Rams, leading 31-29 at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, the Bobcats outscored the Rams 15-4 which extended their lead to 46-33, as
Christiana McLean hit a jumper shot to keep the Rams in the game. The Bobcats went on a 14-0 run to start the 4th quarter, giving the Bobcats a 60-33 lead. Starasia Freeman-Bell hit a three-pointer to cut into the Bobcats lead.
The Rams will be in action tomorrow Saturday, November 11th against Salem University on day two of the Frostburg Tournament.
