Women’s Basketball Falls to North Greenville in Close Contest Monday Night

TIGERVILLE, S.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team fell short to North Greenville 66-62 inside Haynes gymnasium.
 
The Rams moved to (3-2, 0-0 CIAA) while the Crusaders improved to (4-1, 0-0 CC).
 
Kennedi Simmions led the Rams with 18 points coming off the bench, Taniah Wilkins scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Amaya Tucker chipped in with 11 points and four steals. Sierra Hunter chipped in with nine rebounds.
 
Quick Inside the Numbers:
The Rams went 19-51 from the field and 19-31 from the free-throw line. The Rams also had 24 in the paint, 24 points off turnovers, and 33 bench points. The Rams forced 22 turnovers.
 
In the first quarter, the Crusaders jumped out to an early 5-0. The Rams bounced back with back-to-back jumpers by Sierra Hunter and Tolisha Walker making the score 5-4 with 6:16 left in the quarter. The Crusaders made a three-pointer at the end of the quarter making the score Crusaders 21-14 at the end of the 1st. In the second quarter, the Rams went on an 8-0 run highlighted by an Amaya Tucker three-pointer making the score 24-19 with 8:50 left in the quarter. The Rams took their first lead of the game on another three from Amaya Tucker making the score 30-29 with 4:21 left. WSSU went into halftime on a 9-0 run and held a 36-35 lead at the half.
 
In the third quarter, Christiana McLean hit a three-pointer to give the Rams a four-point lead early 39-35. The Crusaders went on an 8-0 run, Kennedi Simmons ended the run with a jump shot making the score 48-43 with 3:58 left in the quarter. Kennedi Simmons made a lay-up at the end of the quarter to cut the lead to one, 48-47. In the fourth quarter. The Rams took the lead early with a made jumper shot by Amaya Tucker 50-48 Rams. The Crusaders fought back and took a five-point lead 58-53 with 2:55 left. With 26 seconds left Kennedi Simmons made two big free throws to make the score 63-58, but it was a little too late for the Rams.

The Rams will travel to Winter Park Florida, as they will play in the Rollins Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday, November 24, and Saturday, November, 25th. The Rams will play Florida Southern College first on Friday, November 24th at 4:00 p.m.
