ETTRICK, VA. –
Shajada Barrett and
Semmie Moore from the Winston-Salem State University women's tennis team were named to the 2023 All-CIAA Tennis team, the league announced Friday morning.
Barrett, the Gastonia, North Carolina native has had a great senior year with the Rams. She has seen WSSU surpass their record from last year including finishing with a great 3-1 CIAA Round-up outcome. Individually, she is 4-3 in the CIAA and has been a great team captain assisting the new head coach in his first season with the Rams.
Moore, the Pickerington, Ohio native has been a great addition to the Rams. Individually, she has not lost a single match in or outside of the conference. In her toughest match against Shaw, she took down their number one as well as defeated every number one player in the CIAA. In her four unfinished matches, she had leads in all of them when the matches were called by the coaches. Semmie has been a very humble student-athlete who played every match this season with great sportsmanship and has really supported her teammates.
CIAA Player of the Year went to Anja Antonijevic from Shaw and Johnson C. Smith's Makayla Ramos was named the CIAA Rookie of the Year, while Shaw's Sunday Enitan was named CIAA Coach of the Year.
