RICHMOND, Va. – The Winston-Salem State University tennis team went 3-1 during the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) tennis round-up hosted by Virginia State.
During game 1, the Rams defeated Bowie State 4-1. In doubles,
Semmie Moore and
Iyana Nickens won their match 7-5 and
Brooke Higgins and
Kyla Burns won their match 6-0 to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage. The Bulldogs earned a point off of a default.
In singles,
Kyla Burns (8-3),
Iyana Nickens (8-0) and
Briana Drew (8-0) all won their matches.
In game two, WSSU won 4-0.
Against ECSU, the Rams won 5-2 over the Vikings. In doubles,
Semmie Moore and
Iyana Nickens won 6-3 and
Brooke Higgins and
Kyla Burns won 6-2.
The Vikings won doubles three by default.
In singles,
Semmie Moore won 8-3.
Brooke Higgins won 9-8, Karrigan Belangia from ECSU took number three singles, 8-7,
Iyana Nickens won at number 4, 8-3 and
Briana Drew won 8-1 at number five singles.
On the last day of the round-up, the Rams fell to Virginia State 5-2.
WSSU will get ready to compete at the CIAA Championships on April 25-26 in Richmond, Virginia on the campus of Virgina State University.
