WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Anyiah Jackson and
Alycia Cunningham from the Winston-Salem State University softball team have been named to the Conference Commissions & Association Division II (D2CCA) 2023 Softball All-Atlantic Region Second Team, announced Tuesday morning.
Aniyah Jackson, the second baseman from West End, North Carolina also was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Year and was also named to the All-CIAA First Team, All-CIAA Rookie Team, and All-CIAA Tournament Team.
She batted .349 with 10 doubles, two triples, and five home runs along with 36 RBIs. She is ranked seventh in the CIAA in home runs and fifth in doubles. She led the team in stolen bases with 18, which also ranked her ninth in the conference. Jackson finished the season with 76 putouts. She earned CIAA Rookie of the Week honors, for week six after she went 3-for-3 with one triple and five RBIs. In game two, she went 1-for-4 with a triple, RBI, and three runs scored against St. Augustine's.
Alycia Cunnigham, the third baseman from Canton, Ohio also earned CIAA accolades by being named to the All-CIAA First Team.
This season she finished with a .391 batting average. She led the team in home runs with six which also ranked her sixth in the CIAA. Cunningham also had six doubles, two triples, and 19 RBIs. She recorded 19 putouts with 35 assists and had a fielding percentage of .885.
Player of the Year went to Charleston's Hannah Rose and West Virginia Wesleyan's Kendall Stoffel.
