Box Score 2 RICHMOND, Va. – The Winston-Salem State University tennis team finished the weekend picking up wins over Virginia Union and Bowie State to close out the CIAA Round-up, hosted by Virginia Union.
The Rams went 1-1 on day one of the Round-up, falling to Virginia State 4-2 but defeating Elizabeth City, 4-1.
Against VSU,
Semmie Moore and
Kyla Burns won at #1 doubles to win the doubles point. VSU swept the singles at 2,3,4 and 5 to take the match 4-2.
Against ECSU, the Rams took the double point with wins at #2 doubles,
Brooke Higgins and
Iyana Nickens, and at #3 doubles
Briana Drew and
Gabrielle Pecina.
Semmie Moore scored the first singles victory followed by #4,
Iyana Nickens, and #5
Briana Drew.
On day two, the Rams began the morning defeating Virginia Union 4-0 but fell to Bluefield State 4-0. They closed out the night in a back-and-forth match against Bowie State eventually defeating the Bulldogs 4-3.
Against VUU,
Brooke Higgins and
Iyana Nickens, and
Briana Drew and
Gabrielle Pecina earned points for the Rams winning their sets.
Semmie Moore,
Kyla Burns, and
Briana Drew won in doubles.
In the match with Bowie State, the Rams earned all their points in singles after BSU won two of the doubles sets.
Semmie Moore,
Iyana Nickens,
Briana Drew and
Gabrielle Pecina all picked up victories in the match.
The Rams will be back in action on Saturday, March 23 hosting Johnson C. Smith at 2 p.m. at the Joe White Tennis Center.
