Box Score 3 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State women's tennis team dropped three matches over the weekend to Averett, Shaw, and Queens College.
The Rams moved to 3-10 (3-2 CIAA) on the season.
How it Happened – No. 47 Averett
The Cougars won the match 9-0 on Friday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts. First Averett swept doubles to earn a point. Then in singles,
Semmie Moore finished 2-6 and 4-6,
Brooke Higgins was 0-6, and 0-6,
Kyla Burns was 0-6 and 1-6,
Iyana Nickens was 0-6 and 0-6,
Briana Drew was 0-6 and 1-6 and Gabreille Pecina was 1-6 and 2-6. The order of finish was 6,5,4,2,3,1.
How it Happed – Shaw
The Bears of Shaw University won the match 9-0 on Saturday. Shaw won doubles and earned the first point. They later swept singles and the scores went as follows:
Semmie Moore (0-6, 7-5),
Brooke Higgins (0-6, 0-6),
Kyla Burns (0-6, 0-6),
Iyana Nickens (1-6, 0-6,),
Briana Drew (0-6, 1-6) and
Gabrielle Pecina (0-6, 0-6).
How it Happened – Queens College
The Royals took the doubles point winning on every doubles line on Sunday afternoon. In singles, the Rams scored went as follows:
Brooke Higgins (0-6, 1-6),
Kyla Burns (0-6, 0-6), Iyana Nickes (0-6, 0-6),
Briana Drew (0-6, 0-6),
Gabrielle Pecina (0-6, 0-6) and Dezira Black-Macon (0-6, 0-6). The order of finish was 1,2,34,5,6. Queens College took the match 7-0.
The Rams will be back in action on Saturday, April 13th hosting Livingstone for a double-header. The first match will begin at 10 am. It is also senior day, and the Rams will honor its lone senior,
Gabrielle Pecina. The ceremony will begin at 9:45 am at the Joe White Tennis Center.
