DURHAM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's outdoor track and field team captured second place at the CIAA Outdoor Championships at Durham County Stadium.
The Rams finished with 106 points to claim the feat. Fayetteville State finished in first place with 174 points and St. Augustine's captured third place with 79.5 points.
WSSU had multiple people earn podium finishes including the Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year,
Brianna Benloss who captured first place in the 100m finals with a time of 11.87.
How it happened – Track
Ronee Tudor finished second in the 100m finals (12.01). Both Benloss and Tudor had NCAA qualifying times.
Hayleigh Bryant captured first place in the 200m finals with an NCAA qualifying time of 23.83. Benloss finished in third (24.23-NCAA qualifying), and Tudor finished in fifth (25.10).
Bryant came in seventh place in the 400m finals (58.01).
Briyana Tillman took seventh place in the 800m finals (2:19.54).
Elicia Bryant finished fifth place in the 1500m (4:54.90), and
Vanessa Jones came in 11th place (5:07.31).
Vanessa Jones came in 10th place in the 3000m (11:21.80).
Charnessa Reid took second place in the 100h (14.45), and
Layla Simpson finished in third (14.45).
Simpson came in eighth place in the 400h finals (1:10.81).
The 4x100 relay team comprised Malaysia Gabriel,
Brianna Benloss,
Ronee Tudor and
Hayleigh Bryant finished in first place in the 4x100 relay with an NCAA qualifying time of 45.94.
The 4x400 relay team with
Jaynissa Cauthen,
Briyana Tillman,
Daijion Lee, and
Hayleigh Bryant captured third place with a time of 3:53.17.
How it Happened – Field
Kennedy Alexander came in second place in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m (5'5").
Charnessa Reid took seventh place with a mark of 1.60m (5'3") and
Amiyah Murray finished in 11th place (1.55m 5'1").
Reid came in third place in the long jump with a mark of 5.87m (19'3.25"). Malaysia Gabriel came in 10th place (5.23m 17'2") and
Kyndall Barrow finished in 15
th with marks of 4.88m (16'0.25").
Layla Simpson finished in eighth place with marks of 11.09m (36'4.75") and
Kyndall Barrow came in 14th place (9.91m 32'6.25").
Asia Lampe took seventh place in the shot put (11.71m 38'5").
Maeghan Wallace finished 18th (10.46m 34'4").
Lampe saw the podium after finishing in third place in the discus (39.84m 130'8").
Alaina Moody came in ninth (35.82m 117'6").
Destiny Griffin came in 12
th (35.43m 116'3").
Moody came in 14th in the javelin 24.66m (80'1.1").
Maeghan Wallace finished in 17th (22.54m 73'1.1").
The Rams will participate at the Dani Palooza Last Chance in High Point, North Carolina on May 12.
