Women’s Basketball Hosts Converse for Home Opener Wednesday Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team will play Converse University for their home opener on November 19. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.

Series Information 
Since 2017, this will be the fourth match-up between the Rams and Valkyries. WSSU currently leads 2-1; last time Converse defeated the Rams 67-56 on November 15th 2024.

 New Coaching Staff:
WSSU women's basketball enters a new era under the leadership of Coach Tierra Terry, no stranger to the CIAA as she was the head coach at Virginia Union. Coach Terry is also a graduate and former player of Winston-Salem State. She added coach Jessica Freeman and Dylan Anderson to her staff in the off-season.
 
Ram Returners:
The Rams brought back seven returners from last year's squad: sophomore Alana Biosse, junior Zion Dixon, and seniors Kierran WalkerAlexandria WarrenJakaiya MackChloe Williams and Jahmaria Miles.
 
Ram Newcomers:
During the off-season, WSSU welcomed in nine newcomers: freshman TaNiya SimmsKloe ThompsonTaylor SimpsonBreonna RoafAmari Kilgore-Baldwin, sophomore Ah'Kiyah Pye, junior Neveah Farmer, senior Makayla Waleed and transfer sophomore Maia Charles.
 
CIAA Preseason/Polls:
The Lady Rams were selected to finish seventh in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) preseason poll.
Jakaiya Mack was named to the preseason team.

Last Time Out
The Rams fell to NC A&T 74-43 on November 16. Maia Charles led the Rams with 14 points and seven rebounds, followed by Taylor Simpson with seven points. 

Scouting Report:
The Rams are led in scoring by Maia Charles, averaging 14.0 points, followed by Taylor Simpson with seven points. 

Converse University (0-2, 0-0 CC)
The Valkyries fell to Lincoln Memorial 86-41 on November 15. Andrea Gutierrez Ciordia leads the Valkyries scoring with 14.0 points per game, followed by Tatiana Brown with 11.0 points per game. Converse is averaging 51.0 points per game.

The Rams will host USC Aiken on November 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
