Lady Rams Overcomes Slow Start, Edging Out Barton Saturday Afternoon

Wilson, N.C. -  The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team had a strong second half, defeating Barton College 56-54, inside the Wilson Gymnasium.
  
The Rams improved (4-1, 0-0 CIAA) on the season 

Nevaeh Farmer led the Rams with 16 points, followed by both Makayla Waleed and Maia Charles with 11 points. 

Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 19-of-60 from the field, 8-of-24 from three, and 10-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Rams grabbed 46 rebounds, scored 22 points in the paint, forced 21 turnovers, scored 18 points off turnovers, and had 13 steals. 

How It Happened
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs took a 5-1 lead on a three-pointer (6:13). A Amari Kilgore-Baldwin three-pointer cut the score to 5-4 (5:21). The Rams tied the game at 8-8, on a Amari Kilgore-Baldwin lay-up (2:51). Barton closed the quarter out on a 10-1 run, taking a 18-9 lead into the second quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Rams went on an 8-0 run, trimming the Barton lead to 18-17 on a Maia Charles lay-up (5:42). A Maia Charles and-one made the score 21-20 (4:49). Barton went on a 8-1 run, extending their lead to 29-22 on two made free-throws (2:52). An Ah"KIyah Pye three-pointer cut the lead to 31-25 with 29 seconds left in the half. Barton took a 31-25 lead into halftime. 

In the third quarter, the Rams went on a 5-0 run, taking a 35-34 lead on a Nevaeh Farmer three-pointer (7:19). Another Neveah Farmer three-pointer gave the Rams a 38-37 lead (4:24).  Two Ah'Kiyah Pye free-throws gave the Rams a 43-42 (1:29). A Makayla Waleed lay-up gave the Rams a 45-44 going into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, a Nevaeh Farmer three-pointer tied the game at 48-48 (7:16). A Bulldogs lay-up gave them a 52-51 (3:45). A Nevaeh Farmer three-pointer gave the Rams a 54-52 (3:24). With the game tied at 54-54, Makayla hit the go-ahead lay-up making the score 56-54 (1:38). The Bulldogs missed the game tying jumper as time expired. 
Up Next
The Rams will travel to Banner Elk, North Carolina on December 1st, taking on Lees-McRae College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the Williams Gymnasium.
