Lady Rams Defeat Ferrum in Comeback Fashion Thursday Night

Ferrum, VA -  The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team's win streak moves to nine, defeating Ferrum College 47-44, inside the Swartz Gymnasium. 

The Rams improved (9-1, 2-0 CIAA) on the season.

Makayla Waleed led the Rams with 14 points and eight steals, followed by Maia Charles with eight points.

Quick Inside the Numbers

The Rams went 16-of-64 from the field, 3-of-22 from three, and 12-of-19 from the free-throw line. The Rams grabbed 37 rebounds, scored 26 points in the paint, forced 44 turnovers, scored 23 points off turnovers, and had 22 steals. 

 How It Happened

In the first quarter, the Panthers took an early 5-0 lead on a three-pointer (8:54). A Breonna Roaf three-pointer cut the score to 7-6 (3:54). The Panthers closed out the quarter on a 10-1 run, taking a 17-7 lead into the second quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Panthers took a 21-7 lead on a jumper (8;37). An Alana Biosse jumper cut the score 26-14 (1:36).  Ferrum took a 26-16 lead into halftime.  

In the third quarter, Ferrum extended its lead to 31-19 on a lay-up (6;04). Two Maia Charles cut the score to 33-21 (3:04). The Rams closed out the quarter on a 9-2 run, cutting the Panthers' lead to 35-29 going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, a Khloe Thompson three-pointer trimmed the Panthers' lead to 35-32 (9:24). A Ferrum lay-up made the score 39-34. A Khloe Thompson three-pointer tied the game at 41-41 (2:48). Two Nevaeh Farmer free throws gave the Rams their first lead of the game 43-41 (1:54). With the Panthers up 44-43, Maia Charles hit a go-ahead lay-up, giving the Rams a 45-44 lead (0:35). Two Ah'Kiyah Pye free throws gave the Rams a 47-44 lead with eight seconds to go.  The Panthers couldn't get a shot off in the final seconds.

The Lady Rams will host University of Mount Olive on December 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
