Women's Basketball Head to Claflin on Wednesday, at Fayetteville State on Saturday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team continues a road trip, traveling to Orangeburg, South Carolina, taking on Claflin University on January 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the Tullis Arena. 

The Lady Rams will wrap up the road trip heading to Fayetteville, North Carolina, taking on Fayetteville State University on January 24. Tip-off is scheduled for noon inside the Felton J. Capel Arena.

Series Information vs Claflin University 
Since 2005, the Rams have led the series 9-7.  Last time the Rams fell to the Panthers 80-63 on February 8, 2025. 

Series Information vs Fayetteville State University 
Since 2006, the Broncos have led the series 20-13. Last time the Rams fell to the Broncos 81-31 on February 13, 2025. 

New Coaching Staff:
WSSU women's basketball enters a new era under the leadership of Coach Tierra Terry, no stranger to the CIAA as she was the head coach at Virginia Union. Coach Terry is also a graduate and former player for Winston-Salem State. She added coach Jessica Freeman and Dylan Anderson to her staff in the off-season.
 
Ram Returners:
The Rams brought back seven returners from last year's squad: sophomore Alana Biosse, junior Zion Dixon, and seniors Kierran Walker, Alexandria Warren, Jakaiya Mack, Chloe Williams and Jahmaria Miles.
 
Ram Newcomers:
During the off-season, WSSU welcomed in nine newcomers: freshman TaNiya Simms, Kloe Thompson, Taylor Simpson, Breonna Roaf, Amari Kilgore-Baldwin, sophomore Ah'Kiyah Pye, junior Neveah Farmer, senior Makayla Waleed and transfer sophomore Maia Charles.
 
CIAA Preseason/Polls:
The Lady Rams were selected to finish seventh in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) preseason poll.
Jakaiya Mack was named to the preseason team.

CIAA Weekly Awards 
  • Ah'Kiyah Pye was named CIAA Rookie of the Week for week three. 
  • Breonna Roaf was named CIAA Rookie of the Week for week four. 
  • Ah'Kiyah Pye was named CIAA Rookie of the Week for week five. 
  • Makayla Waleed was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week for week six, while teammate Breonna Roaf was named CIAA Rookie of the Week. 
  • Maia Charles was named CIAA Player of the Week, while Amari Baldwin was named Rookie of the Week for week eight.
  • Maia Charles was named CIAA Player of the Week, while Ah'Kiyah Pye was named Rookie of the 
  • Week for week nine.
  • Breonna Roaf was named CIAA Player of the Week for week 10. 


WBCA Coaches Poll
The Lady Rams were ranked 22nd in the WBCA Coaches Poll this week. 

Last Time Out
The Rams defeated Shaw University 64-54 on January 17. Makayla Waleed led the Rams with 23 points and nine rebounds, followed by Nevaeh Farmer and Breonna Roaf chipping in with eight points each. 

Scouting Report:
The Rams are led in scoring by Maia Charles, averaging 15.7 points, followed by Makayla Waleed with 11.4 points. WSSU is averaging 70.6 points per game. 

Claflin University (9-4, 5-2 CIAA) 
The Panthers fell to Livingstone 56-50 on January 17. Ashart Lewis leads the Panthers in scoring with 14.8 points per game, followed by Mia Lewis with 10.4 points per game. Claflin is averaging 70.2 points per game. 

Fayetteville  State University (12-2, 6-1 CIAA) Play Livingstone (Jan.21)
The Broncos defeated Johnson C. Smith 74-64 on January 17. KaNiyah O'Neal leads the Broncos in scoring with 11.2 points per game, followed by Talia Trotter with 9.1 points per game. FSU is averaging 67.0 points per game.

The Lady Rams will host Johnson C. Smith University on January 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
